We have some excellent courses lined up for you, including a hedgerow foraging course and a whole hog butchery course. These courses can now be booked online on our new Courses page, or you can contact us to reserve your place.
Hedgerow Foraging Course
The date for hedgerow foraging will be on Saturday 28th September and will include a walk in Stansted to gather wild rose hips and elderberries. Back at the farm shop you will prepare your foraged loot into rosehip syrup and elderberry cordial – delicious Winter Remedies. This course will be run by the lovely Christine from Hedgerow Apothecary who is full of knowledge and you will get a tasty lunch in the courtyard. The Hedgerow Foraging will run from 10am – 2pm and costs £49.
Pork Butchery Course
Our new butcher, Gavin will be running a Whole Hog Butchery Course on Sunday 27th October from 10am to 4pm at the Stansted Farm Shop, including lunch. This will be a hands on course, butchering a whole Stansted Park reared saddleback pig as well as making sausages and bacon. Gavin is also an expert chef, so you will learn all the different pork cuts as well as how to get the best tasting results from your pork. You can have the option of taking home select cuts of pork afterwards. The cost will be £99.
Venison Butchery Course
The venison butchery course will include a talk about forestry management at Stansted, followed by a hands on butchery demonstration of a whole venison carcass. The venison comes from the Stansted Estate, with both Roe and Fallow deer in good numbers. There will be a detailed discussion on how to prepare and cook venison. Lunch is included and you will take home cuts of venison for you to cook in your own kitchen.
This course will run on Sunday November 24th from 10am – 2pm and will cost £149.
