We have Rye scallops in the half shell available this week – ideal for Scallop Gratin where you cook them in their shell. Simply add a knob of garlic butter to the shell with the scallop, sprinkle a light dusting of cayenne pepper, and top with grated parmesan. Place under a hot grill until the parmesan bubbles and then serve in the shells with a squeeze of lemon juice. Not only is this simple dish utterly delicious, but it also saves on the washing up and you get a free soap holder.
This week we have particularly high tides (you can blame the beautiful moon for that one) which results in tricky fishing conditions as there is a lot of weed around. Pete is hoping to line-catch some bass, but otherwise we are getting the following from the Brighton Dayboats:
• Mackerel – 9.95/kg
• Hake fillet – £10.95/kg
• Plaice – £4.95 each
• Lemon Sole – £6.50 each
• Wild Bass – £16/kg
Shellfish
• Dressed Crab – £7.95 each
• Scallops – £1.20 each
If you would like any particular fish, do let us know – otherwise turn up at the shop on Fridays and take your chances. It’s all fantastic quality, locally caught dayboat fish, in most cases caught the day before.
