We have some special offers on aged beef steaks this week with Hampshire beef (the breed is Hereford) that’s been aged on the bone before being hand cut by our butchers. Rump Steak are only £15/kg, Sirloin is £23.99/kg and Beef Fillet is £38/kg.
Pheasant is now in season, joining partridge, grouse and pigeon in the meat fridge. These are all simple meals that can be roasted far quicker than chicken, but have serious flavour that holds well against Autumn root veg and a decent bottle of wine. You need to look after yourself before the winter settles in!
We also have fresh goat meat in this week – renowned for being one of the healthiest meats you can buy, you can cook it much the same way you do lamb, but I think it works best with more exotic recipes from countries where it is part of their staple diet – think African, Middle Eastern or Jamaican and get a bit of spice going!.
There are some lovely recipes on the Great British Chef Website and we have a good range of sauces if you are looking for an easy life. Why not try the Moroccan Fennel & Apricot Tagine Sauce? If you want to create your own sauce, then here’s a suggestion for curry goat:
The full recipe for 4 people is:
Marinade
100g natural yoghurt
2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
2 tsp garlic, grated
½ tsp turmeric powder
4 tsp tomato puree
1 tsp garam masala
4 tsp Chilli Paste
Salt, to taste
500g boneless goat meat, diced
4 tsp rapeseed oil
4 red onions, peeled and each cut into 4 pieces
4 tomatoes, finely chopped
500ml hot water (add more if required)
4 potatoes, boiled, cooled and chopped into large pieces
1 tsp dried pomegranate seeds
A bunch of coriander leaves, chopped
Heat the oil in a pan over high heat, fry the onions for 5 minutes until golden, then add tomatoes and cook for 3 more minutes.
Add the goat and stir until the mixture is dry, then add the water, cover and turn the heat down to low for half an hour. Add the potatoes and pomegranate seeds and cook for another 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the goat is tender. Top with coriander and serve.
Feel free to pre-order any meat and it can be ready to pick up when you want.
