We will be doing some fabulous cheeses for Christmas, but the stand out impact cheese is a cheddar truckle. Quickes truckle is a large, cloth bound cheddar that looks fantastic, and is ideal for large family gatherings where people can have a dig. It’s the perfect house present. There are two serving options, either cut it like a cake, or the alternative is to take the top off and shave thin slices off, before putting the top back on to keep it moist.
Quickes Cloth bound cheddar truckle is matured for 12 to 15 months, resulting in a complex creamy cheddar that offers outstanding depth of flavour. Exquisitely distinctive taste which develops as it reaches the back of the palate. Pair with English stout or pale ale
Flavour profile: rich and creamy – from brothy to grassy
£32 for a 1.8kg truckle
Cropwell Bishop Stilton just shouts Christmas with every bite – and it has just one 3 stars at the Great Taste Awards 2017 which is a seriously impressive achievement.
The award judges include chefs, supermarket buyers and restaurant critics, who spend hour’s blind tasting products from all over the country. Some of the judges comments about our cheese included;
“The flavour is like an explosion on the palate”
“Fantastic! Creamy, rich, tangy with a perfect balance of salt.”
“Creamy richness, then BAM – a blue explosion!”
The mini blue stilton truckle is 2kg and costs £35.
However, if you can’t manage a whole truckle, then we also do it by the slice, but do order as these artisan cheesemakers can only make a certain amount and stocks start running out nationally in the run up to Christmas.
