July is truffle season, with the summer truffle available throughout Europe (including in the South Downs).  While we don’t (yet) have the trained hounds to dig out these wonderful delicacies, we do have a great selection of Italian truffle products so that you can enjoy the incredible truffle taste without breaking the bank.

We have whole summer truffles in oil that have been sourced from hunters and gatherers in central Italy (£15.49/jar), as well as an exceptional truffle sauce that Gavin has used with roast beef as one of our most popular canapés .   It’s only £3.99 per jar and the flavour is remarkably strong, so a little goes a long way. We also have white and black truffle pieces in olive oil which again can be used sparingly to great effect in all of your cooking.  It’s a simple, cost effective way of lifting everyday dishes to seriously impressive showpieces.  A breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast is taken to legendary status with the introduction of a little bit of truffle.

Truffle is a great accompaniment to beef or white fish such as cod, bass or bream, but we also have a superb range of fresh and dried pasta, including a Ricotta, Truffle & Mushroom Ravioli. We also have truffle risotto available so you can enjoy the full range of truffle tastes and textures…

If you were thinking of a wine accompaniment then we have a wine from Alba, the home of the white truffle hunter, Fletcher’s Nebbiolo d’Alba 2017 – a fantasitc unfined and unfiltered red, organically grown.

If you are interested in trying to find truffles, we might put on a foraging course.  Let me know? In the meantime, enjoy some summer truffles.
