Every week we get a delivery of Creedy Carver Chickens. Creedy Carver has been producing the highest quality free-range chickens for 30 years. It’s a small family farm in Devon that rear chicken and duck (although the duck is on hold at the moment due to restaurants being closed) to the highest welfare standards. The chickens have access to large grass pastures that are planted with trees. They are prepared on-site so there is no travel involved.
Our delivery driver is from Creedy Carver so we know exactly what we are getting and can reassure you about the welfare and traceability of the chicken that you are feeding your family. All Creedy Carver free-range chicken are fed on a natural, cereal-based diet free from additives and growth promoters to ensure a natural leisurely growth resulting in a bird full of flavour but still having plenty of meat on the carcase.
I wanted to highlight this as you simply cannot know where your chicken comes from when you buy from the supermarkets. The scandal hit 2 Sisters Food Group supplies Aldi, Asda, Co-op, KFC, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose. It is in the news again this week as it closes one of its plants following an outbreak of Coronavirus with 158 staff. The remarkable thing is that this will affect 1/3rd of all chicken bought in the UK, and regardless of whatever labels the supermarkets put on their packaging, a large proportion of their chicken comes from one processor, and that processor has a history of falsifying kill dates and poor hygiene practices that have again culminated in this week’s closure of the plant.
If you want to know what you are feeding your family, make sure you know the supply chain and shop locally, sourcing from local producers. Whatever happens, don’t trust supermarket labeling as it can be misleading, and the majority of UK Chickens are reared with no access to outdoors, but are caged in huge numbers with the space of an A4 piece of paper each.
You can buy Creedy Carver chickens in the shop, or they are available for click and collect and delivery.
