We have a new cheese supplier who is providing the crème de la crème of Continental cheeses – hand-selected from farms and cheesemakers in France, Italy, Ireland and others. They join our counter of Legendary Locals and Best of British to give you a superb selection of outstanding cheeses. Simeon Hudson-Evans has been selling cheese since he first opened a London deli in the 1980’s. He has sourced and developed some wonderful cheesy connections and now brings his expertise to the farm shop.
Gorgonzola Gran Riserva – From Piedmont, this Gorgonzola is the flagship for Mario Costa who have been making exceptional Gorgonzolas for four generations. Now in the hands of brother and sister Davide and Federica they moved premises to a state-of-the-art facility where they mature as well as make this award-winning cheese. Since the move, they have reclaimed the most prestigious prize in the Italian cheese world the “Trofeo di San Lucio” in 2018. The Gran Riserva Dolceficato is soft, rich, and sweet quite unlike the picante version.
Comté Extra Vieux is matured by Rivoire-Jacquemin and is made in the small hamlet of Les Fontanelles in the Jura mountains. The milk from the Montbéliarde cows comes from just two farms within a 25km radius of the village. Within 3-4 weeks of being made the wheels are taken to the cellars of Rivoire-Jacquemin in Montmorot to be lovingly cared for and matured. Ours is matured for 15-18 months (longer than most) to give this cheese nuttiness, sweetness and a complex depth of flavour.
Parmigiano Reggiano – Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, a classic 30 month matured Parmesan with a hard, crumbly & shinny texture with scattered crystals around its paste, giving a complex & intense flavour, characterised by meatiness & nuttiness. Long-lasting finish.
We also have two great Irish cheese to enjoy as we approach St Patrick’s Day.
