I’m thrilled to announce that we are launching the inaugural South Downs Food Festival at Stansted Park on the 14th & 15th.September this year.  The festival will celebrate the finest South Downs produce, with lots of wonderful food and drinks producers, chef demos, BBQ, Sushi, tastings, talks, live music, Tea on the Terrace and the ‘Stansted Arms’ pop-up pub.

We are focusing on produce from the South Downs and coast with a high street of farmers, fishermen and producers. We will have apple pressing, sushi making, pickling, wood turning, venison butchery and other food demos. You can feast on long tables with menus from Michelin-starred chefs (proceeds going to Rowan’s Hospice) or grab a Stansted picnic full of Sussex specialties.  We will have wood-fired pizza, asado grills and low and slow brisket for a legendary lunch to remember.

We are working with the Elizabeth David estate, the post-war food writer who influenced many of today’s great chefs and food writers.   Elizabeth David’s nephew, Johnny Grey, will be leading talks on the revival of British food culture with food historians such as Diane Purkiss and author Rachel CookeGuy Singh-Watson, founder of Riverford veg boxes and James Beard, the farmer behind the Weald To Waves wildlife corridor will discuss farming, food production, biodiversity and health, as we consider the ‘Future of Food’.

We’ll have a new & 2nd hand cookery book store with Authors signing, there will be a kitchen design area and a living history tour of Stansted House & kitchen, and if we are to celebrate South Downs produce properly, then we can raise a glass at the ‘Stansted Arms’ pop-up pub, with a glorious selection of Sussex and Hampshire English sparkling, Blackmoor ciders, and a bounty of locally brewed beers and a glut of gins, all while listening to great live music.
