We had a fantastic South Downs Food Festival in the sunshine, with lots of local producers, talks, cookery demos and a superb crowd. Highlights were events such as the venison butchery demonstration, grilled corn and crayfish, Tommi Miers cookery demonstration with her daughter, and of course Dame Prue Leith opening the show and following up with personal anecdotes about Elizabeth David.
The Chichester Observer and other local press seemed to enjoy the festival!
There was a unique combination of producers and stalls, talks and demos which gave visitors the chance to explore the local, regional and global food systems that we all rely on, and find out how Elizabeth David contributed to the way we think and eat food today. We also considered the challenges of providing healthy sustainable food for a growing global population.
With 50 stalls, live music and a demo tent, foraging walks and wine tastings as well as the wide-ranging talks held in the spectacular Travelling barn, visitors were entertained and extremely well fed with wood-fired lunch.
