We have a couple of lovely suggestions to match with your Christmas lunch this year:
Montsablé Reserve Chardonnay 2023, Haute Vallée de L’Aude
An absolute must buy for any lover of elegant French Chardonnay, at a fraction of the price you’d pay for village Macon. Altitude, climate and limestone rich soils combine to produce outstanding fruit from the coolest of all the Mediterranean regions of France. The wine is left on its lees to add complexity of flavour, texture and weight whilst retaining refreshing ripe fruit character, 30% of the wine is also aged in older French oak barrels for 6 months adding further creamy complexity.
The floral aromas and white peach flavours are complemented by a little vanilla and honey, a lovely creamy texture and mineral tones through to a classy finish.
This is going to work really well with fish or seafood and has richness to stand up to cream sources, it would also work well with roast Turkey or indeed chicken if you prefer a white wine.
Montsablé Reserve Pinot Noir 2023, Haute Vallée de L’Aude
From old vines, a Burgundian style of Pinot due to the limestone soils, cooler oceanic influences and good rainfall of the Haute Vallée de l’Aude which brings freshness and aromatics, however this is an undeniably southern French wine, with a sun-drenched Mediterranean depth to the fruit.
The wine is barrel aged for 6 months in a selection of barrels before blending to produce a Pinot Noir of class, texture and weight.
Aromas of dark cherry and blackberry plus a rich, round palate of red berry fruit are complemented by toasty, vanilla notes that bring a touch of spice to the finish.
Beautiful drinking this would happily work with game, slow cooked casserole and a really great match for Turkey and all the trimmings
