From Café Origins to Artisan Roastery: A Coffee Story Worth Sharing

Meet Pravin — the passionate roaster behind Sunday Coffee Roasters. His journey started back in 2014, when he co-founded a small speciality café in Portsmouth. On the surface, it was “just” a coffee shop — but behind the counter stood something more meaningful: a social-enterprise committed to supporting people in early recovery from addiction, offering barista training and volunteering opportunities to help rebuild confidence and skills.

After pouring his heart into the café, Pravin’s curiosity led him deeper — into the art and craft of roasting coffee. He began training seriously, acquiring his first small 2.4 kg roaster (affectionately named “Tony”), and slowly, through practice and care, learned what made a great coffee.

Sunday Coffee Roasters: Craft, Connection, and Conscious Sourcing

As the coffee improved, demand grew — and so did the vision. That humble Sunday experiment blossomed into Sunday Coffee Roasters, a fully fledged independent speciality roaster now working out of a converted old chicken shed near Southbourne Farm Shop.

Pravin’s philosophy goes beyond flavour: for him, coffee is a matter of values. He focuses on sourcing beans through direct relationships, often working with impact-led producers. Whenever possible, he travels to growing regions — meeting the farmers, understanding the challenges, and learning how beans are processed and harvested, to appreciate the full story behind every cup.

The roasting itself is far from automated: each batch is “hand-roasted” on a gas roaster, logged and calibrated manually, combining craft, experience, and sensory skill. It’s this human touch — the kind you only get when you care deeply about every step — that gives Sunday Coffee Roasters beans their distinctive character.

At Stansted Farm Shop, we’re proud to celebrate local, ethical, and authentic food and drink. Pravin’s journey — from social-enterprise café to artisan roastery — is a great example, with his commitment to quality and craft, respecting provenance and his supply chain.
