Ashling Park is 3 miles away from the shop and is producing some of the best English Sparkling wine you can get. This year they swept the board at the UK’s most prestigious wine competition when awarded not one, not two but three of its top wine trophies. Each year WineGB hosts a blind tasting to find the best wines produced on British soil and Ashling Park won Best Classic Cuvée NV, Best Sparkling Rosé and Best Sparkling Wine in the South East (also for their Cuvée NV) – an outstanding achievement.
This is a fantastic deal for our customers: if you purchase any 6 bottles of Ashling Park sparkling between now and Christmas 2020, you will get 10% off your wine, and a free wine tour at tasting at Ashling Park’s new winery (you’ve probably seen the sign between here and Chichester). This is a great way to get multiple Christmas presents (keeping a bottle or two for yourself).
Ashling Park is just down the road in West Ashling, and their cuvee won Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2018. With only 9 UK golds that year, they are up with the best. The judges described Ashling Park as “Focus and precision on the nose, full of personality and vigour. The mousse is persistent and the texture light and poised. A decent dose of autolytic complexity on the finish.”
Ashling Park Estate has to be one of the luckiest places in the whole of the South Downs. Their loamy soil and sheltered position provide the perfect environment for growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – the holy trinity of sparkling wine grapes. The Classic blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier makes up the Cuvee NV. And to supervise the magical transformation from vine to wine they have secured the services of Dermot Sugrue, one of the most talented (and award-winning) wine makers in the industry if not the whole world.
