Ashling Park is based 4 miles down the road towards Chichester, and they have been producing some of the best English Sparkling in the country, winning the President’s trophy for the ‘Best Classic Cuvée NV’ in 2020 & 2021 (which also won gold in 2022). Their sparkling Rose won Best Sparkling Rose at the prestigious award at the Wine GB Awards in 2022 as well.
It’s a remarkable list of achievements that proves it’s the finest of English Sparkling, especially considering the level of competition in the UK sparkling wine sector at the moment, with hundreds of entrants from almost every county in England.
This is fully deserved, as Gail Gardner has worked incredibly hard with her team to produce the finest quality wine. You can visit the vineyard (just 4 miles from the farm shop) for a tour, lunch or supper and you can even stay the night in one of the luxurious lodges. There is also a gin school where you can make your own gins, but really you need to enjoy their wines.
The judges described Ashling Park as “Focus and precision on the nose, full of personality and vigour. The mousse is persistent and the texture light and poised. A decent dose of autolytic complexity on the finish.”
Ashling Park Estate has to be one of the luckiest places in the whole of the South Downs. Their loamy soil and sheltered position provide the perfect environment for growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – the holy trinity of sparkling wine grapes. The Classic blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier makes up the Cuvee NV. And to supervise the magical transformation from vine to wine they have secured the services of Dermot Sugrue, one of the most talented (and award-winning) winemakers in the industry if not the whole world.
We also now stock their 3 spirits, their chardonnay and still rose. Come and have a look….
