We have new beer in the house – Powder Monkey Brewing Co is based in the historic grade 2 listed gunpowder magazine building in Gosport, with the building acting as inspiration for some explosive beers. Created by Oxford University biochemist head brewer Mark Hamlin, there is a superb choice of ales and stout.
Monkeys Charge DDH Pale Ale – A double dry-hopped pale ale, bursting with mango and tropical fruit flavours from two hop charges of Azacca and Amarillo. It pours with a bright golden haze and a soft malt body.
Explosion IPA – An authentic West Coast IPA using the classic ‘C’ hops that helped launch the craft beer revolution. A punchy hop aroma of pine and citrus leaps out the glass, light crystal malt in the body is pushed aside by an assertive bitterness to give a thirst-quenching finish.
Drunken Sailor – A rich breakfast stout that uses a combination of 8 different malts and lactose for a complex and smooth body. This base of chocolate and caramel is elevated by specially selected Brazilian coffee beans which give an aroma of caramel and dark fruits.
Drop Anchor – A pale ale with a base of Vienna malt, this higher-kilned malt gives the beer a fuller body with a bready and toasted character. A dry-hop combination of Citra and El Dorado brings an onslaught of tropical fruit to make for a juicy and crushable beer.
BBQ Rye IPA – this rye IPA has a sweet centre of caramel malts that will complement the natural caramelisation of any grilled, marinated meats. The aroma is bursting with tropical and stone fruit flavours from a dry hop of Motueka and Ekuanot. Pairs well with all meats and the hop notes and slightly drying finish will particularly accentuate spice.
