Description
Shropshire Blue has the colour of a Cheshire cheese and the flavour of a Stilton. It is made by Colston and Basset, the home of traditional British Stilton.
Made from pasteurised cow’s milk, Shropshire Blue is veined with blue mould, giving it a rich and creamy texture with a slightly crumbly consistency. The cheese’s striking orange colour comes from the addition of natural annatto, a food colouring derived from the seeds of the achiote tree. The natural rind is a deep orange-brown shade, and the cheese is slightly milder in flavour than Stilton. Shropshire Blue cheese has a creamy taste and smooth texture with no bitterness or sharpness. This cheese is well-balanced and flavourful, its rich and tangy flavours are accompanied by a subtle sweetness.
Shropshire Blue adds a delightful punch of flavour when crumbled over salads, melted into sauces, or incorporated into savoury dishes.
